KERRYCLIMBING WINTER LECTURE SERIES IS BACK...

We are delighted to announce another super series of exciting talks by more Top Adventurers, Mountaineers and Climbers....
 
Now into it's 3rd year, our highly successful series of evening lectures have in the past had a wealth of top climbers such as Andy Kirkpatrick, Johnny Dawes, Dermot Somers, Ricky Bell, Paul Swail and Ian Miller entertain and inspire us with crazy tales of first ascents and vertical adventures from both home and abroad...

To date these talks have  raised over €2100 for Mountain Rescue and climbing related beneficiaries and this year proceeds will be going to
Kerry Mountain Rescue team.

INTRODUCING OUR MOUNTAIN PROFICIANCY COURSE


This instructional climb is aimed at the more regular hill-walker who would like to step it up a gear and bring it to the next level. Perhaps you are training or preparing for other upcoming adventures or climbs such as Kilimanjaro etc and if so then this is the perfect trek for you!!!  

 

Subjects covered during this ascent:

 * Night Navigation/Map reading

 * Night safety/Additional hazards

 * Equipment and Emergency procedures

 * Nutrition

 * Group assessment and dealing with fatigue

 * Scrambling/Movement on steep ground


THIS COURSE INVOLVES A NIGHT TIME ASCENT OF CORRÁN TUATHAIL BY BROTHER O' SHEAS GULLY, SUMMITING AS THE SUN BEGINS TO RISE AND TAKING IN THE FIRST OF THE DAYS RAYS ON THE HIGHEST POINT IN THE LAND!!!

We will then continue this challenging, instructional and hugely fulfilling day by traversing the entire length of the Eastern Reeks taking in the super classic “Cnoc na Péiste ridge”, to finish at Kate Kearney’s cottage in the Gap of Dunloe and in the process taking in 7 summits over 800meters in height!!!

These include : Corrán Tuathail - 1040mtrs, Cnoc Toinne- 845mtrs, Cnoc an Chuillin – 958mtrs, Maolán Buí – 973mtrs, Cnoc na Péiste – 988mtrs and Cruach Mhór – 932mtrs
What a truly invigorating and memorable way to experience Ireland’s highest mountains, the magnificent MacGillycuddy's Reeks
Previous hillwalking and scrambling experience essential.
Headtorches can be provided.


 





WE ARE NOW RUNNING OUR INTRO ROCK COURSES IN EAST CORK AS WELL AS KERRY !!!!


We have 2 day,1 day and evening (4hr) courses taking place in both locations over the summer.  These courses are suitable for beginners wanting to take their first steps in becoming a competent rock climber, novices wanting to further their skills and for groups of friends just looking to try something different!!!
